Hello,

we are planning to remove a wooden garden shed and replace it with a Biohort garden house. Next to it, there will be a small wooden sauna (2-3 people), and in front, a small hot tub.

Is the sauna exempt from building permits / planning permission, or do I need to ask someone? It’s also about privacy, etc.

Check the local building regulations to see what is exempt from requiring a building permit/planning permission. The rules vary significantly.

A sauna and garden shed must not be connected, otherwise the area/volume is considered together. Whether you are naked inside is irrelevant to the authorities. However, for the sake of good neighbor relations, a privacy screen should be mandatory.

30mÂł (35 cubic yards) gross volume. The sauna is not considered a living space.
