Hello everyone, I am currently planning my kitchen layout using Ikea Metod cabinets. The challenge is that I have a sloped ceiling, and I want to arrange the cabinets in the best possible way without losing much storage space or making the setup look impractical.

My question is: What are the best methods to position Ikea Metod cabinets under sloped ceilings? What variations and tricks have you used to make good use of the slope, and which cabinet sizes or combinations do you recommend? How can you prevent the cabinets from looking too bulky or becoming difficult to access?

I appreciate any tips, experiences, and recommendations on whether special modifications are necessary or if the standard modules work well as they are. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend fitting the cabinets as close as possible to the sloping roof. Use shallower cabinets where the slope is lower, meaning the cabinets with less depth.

Important: Use wall cabinets or open shelves above if the slope becomes too low. This way, accessibility is maintained.

Basically, you should first accurately measure the room height and the angle of the sloping roof.

Then I recommend planning both the base cabinets and the wall cabinets modularly, with intentionally varying depths: base cabinet rows are best at a standard depth of 60cm (24 inches), while wall cabinets on the slope should be shallower, around 20-40cm (8-16 inches).

It is also worth using special corner solutions or angled finishes to avoid empty spaces. The Metod system allows adjustments at the base, so the cabinets can also be installed offset.

Avoid filling the entire sloped area with cabinets to maintain enough air space and access.

I know exactly how frustrating a sloped ceiling can be!

That helped me a lot back then. I just wanted to say: take your time to plan well and don’t get discouraged if everything doesn’t fit perfectly. Sometimes small compromises make sense so you end up with a harmonious overall result.

Also, I would recommend not building the cabinets all the way up to the slope, but leaving a small gap to improve shadowing and accessibility.

A quick tip: The modular construction of Metod cabinets offers many options to easily adapt to sloped ceilings.

Get a protractor and work with the roof pitch shown in the plans. Then make sure to choose the right cabinet height and opt for narrow tall cabinets to stay flexible.

Interesting thread. I noticed that many people here offer practical tips without fully questioning the fundamental issue of a sloped ceiling: Is the Metod series with its fixed dimensions really the best system for sloped ceilings?

That sounds good, but the question is whether Ikea provides flexible components that actually fit precisely to various slopes. It might be that for sloped ceilings, custom furniture or at least custom cutting is necessary; otherwise, compromises in storage space and appearance could be too significant.

Therefore, I would recommend measuring the sloped ceiling very carefully, consulting with Ikea, but also planning a follow-up budget for modifications or professional custom cuts.
