Dear community,
due to soaring prices, we would appreciate an evaluation of the attached quote. We are building on a slight slope and therefore need two levels secured by L-shaped retaining stones. Additionally, the earthworks around the house are included, as well as the required paving without materials.
Do you think the price is reasonable or rather too expensive? Your feedback would be a great help to us!
Thank you all very much

Positions 3-5 maybe. You don’t just do 1 and 2 yourself. I wouldn’t do it and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. If the slope somewhere there collapses and buries someone – that’s bad enough, but if it then turns out that it wasn’t done by a professional company but the homeowner spent a few days digging around with a mini excavator, no insurance will cover it or they will reclaim the costs.

As you should realize, comments like those from a know-it-all don’t help anyone.I don’t see any know-it-all here. And yes, you already gave yourself the answer:

…Nowadays, it’s not easy to get quotes; landscape gardeners are fully booked and sometimes quote exorbitant prices or don’t respond at all for such small projects. So you can consider it a bonus in the quote that you even found a landscape gardener willing to provide an offer. Paving over 100 sqm (1,076 sq ft) seems quite reasonable in your quote, for example.
And with a total price of €20,000 (around $21,500) it actually sounds pretty good*, especially if you expect no alternative offers.
*This should be the price you’re willing to pay. There’s no sky-high price of €30,000 (around $32,200) or more!

So, a 1m (3.3 ft) high retaining wall can still be built by yourself. Just not with L-shaped concrete blocks that weigh 400-500 kg (880-1,100 lbs) 😉

There are many difficulties like slopes, height differences, etc.—it’s not just a matter of quickly placing a stone.

But honestly, where is the main challenge?
Height differences along the course can be accommodated in the foundation, which landscapers do as well. As an amateur, you simply can’t move large and heavy parts, so you have to work with smaller stones.
