testeinszwo10 Nov 2018 07:11Hello everyone,
we are considering purchasing a house: North American style with a wrap-around porch on a north-northwest facing lot (large north garden).
What do you think about the attached overview? I am a bit concerned that the house might be somewhat dark inside (especially now and during winter). There are enough windows, but the porch acts as a constant shading element. On the south side, there are practically no windows, as this area faces the courtyard and garages. Also, the terrace at the corner of the house might not be ideal. However, it would still be possible to create an uncovered seating area facing the garden.
Explanation:
T = Terrace
W = Living room
K = Kitchen
E = Entrance
G = Garage
UV = Wrap-around porch
Distances to neighboring buildings are indicated.
There is a shed to the left of the house that will be removed.
I look forward to your thoughts on this..!

With your drawing, it’s harder to get a clear idea, but to me it sounds uncomfortably dark.
What kind of courtyard/garages are these on the south side? Do they belong to the house?

The garages are built into the house, with direct access to the living area. On the left is a double garage, and on the right another space for bicycles, a workshop, storage, etc.
An additional outdoor seating area in the garden would not be a problem (approximately 1,200sqm (13,000 sq ft) of garden behind the house with no dense neighboring buildings).
Attached is an example of what is meant by a "wrap-around veranda." The covered terrace is about 4x4m (13x13 ft), so it has an even larger roof overhang.
