Hello everyone,

My husband and I are considering buying a house built in 1950 with an extension added in 1995. We don’t really like the floor plan, but we do like the location and size of the property. We would be doing a lot of remodeling anyway—windows, doors, walls, bathrooms, etc. We are also thinking about relocating the staircase, for example. However, despite many ideas and sketches, we haven’t been able to come up with a “master plan” for the layout and keep running into problems :/

What has been your experience with architects? We definitely want to consult one. But does the architect usually just implement what you’ve already decided, or have they brought you great new ideas for the floor plan? 🙂 Thanks in advance for all your replies 🙂

Best regards

Professionally, I had to manage the demolition of an administrative building in May. The plan was to integrate the rooms into an adjacent building, including its basic renovation, and to improve the parking situation on the site.

Two architects provided very different sketches. One clearly offered a better and more cost-effective solution. The contract was made with that architect. It’s worth getting sketches prepared. However, you need to have the original building plans ready, if available. They are usually archived at the building authority / planning office. And you should have an idea of what you want.
