Here is our floor plan. Maybe someone still has a few useful tips for us... We would really appreciate it.
It is a semi-detached house in the Bauhaus style...

I’ve now found a website that will send you your floor plan within 48 hours... I’m going to give it a try... As I said, it’s really difficult to draw a floor plan for a semi-detached house because one side is missing windows...

But the site you mentioned doesn’t actually design, does it?
They just tidy up your terrible sketch to make it look presentable.
That doesn’t make it better or more functional.

Stop doodling and go to a professional!

Glad you agree. After all, YOU have to live in it!
I have a semi-detached house where, on the ground floor, because of the garage, there are only windows at the front and back. Still, it’s better than yours. Every room has windows, including the hallway.
Get a professional involved—that’s what they are there for! It’s an old comparison, but would you operate on yourself?

The others had already successfully talked you out of this option 😉

If I were you, I wouldn’t give up (just to say “architect, go ahead”) – YOU will live in it later with YOUR own wishes and preferences. Personally, I think it’s good to put some thought into it and develop your own plan, which an architect can then refine or use as a basic concept.

Don’t let yourself get unsettled; reorganize and also take a look at other people’s plans from time to time. Sometimes you just need some inspiration. I can only recommend mentally walking through the house.

-> Then you would have noticed on your own that having to access the bedroom through a bathroom is just nonsense; or that the doors of the kids’ room and room 2 clash 😎

...or a 28sqm (300 sq ft) walk-in closet – amazing.

May I ask which software you are using for this?
(and did you take a photo of it? -> screenshot)

Wow, finally someone who understands me...
The software is called House Planner, and it’s quite nicely designed. But you’re right—especially regarding the structural engineering. I definitely need an architect. In addition, there is a 36m² (387 sq ft) shed with a roof structure at the back of the house, which is built about 1m (3 ft) higher against the house due to the garden’s slope. We want to keep it since it was only added in 1990. However, we plan to tear off the roof and reshape it as a *cube*, incorporating it into the Bauhaus style, while still using it as a shed. As I said, I also think only an architect can provide me with some serious design proposals that are actually feasible. There’s no use in me drawing something now if it ultimately won’t work with the building’s structure...

Here is also an amateur opinion:
I am a hobby planner myself, and it’s a lot of fun. But it only becomes really enjoyable once you’ve done some reading and gained a basic understanding of the topic. Just placing rectangles side by side isn’t really challenging :-)
I don’t think planning a floor plan for a duplex is that difficult. At least you have a shared partition wall that no one can take away from you. Without it, you would end up planning even more windows and wouldn’t be able to place as much furniture. Planning also means making compromises. For example, I don’t see the staircase you have; I would suggest a three-quarter turn staircase so you have enough space upstairs. You could also choose a stylish one that fits the Bauhaus style. With four people, the guest toilet gets used quite often, so it definitely needs a window. Or it could be placed on the central wall. Rooms without natural light are always bad, maybe like the walk-in closet... but that also means disturbing others in the morning when moving back and forth. I hope you choose different windows for the Bauhaus design ;-)
I look forward to seeing a new plan from you... You still have time, so enjoy the process :-)
Best wishes,
Yvonne

Yes... I feel the same way... I have put a lot of thought into the floor plan... But I have to admit, an architect simply has many more ideas... The windows??? Why? They are floor-to-ceiling, huge windows... That’s just how it is done in Bauhaus-style architecture... I’m also still not sure about the staircase... ideally, it would be a concrete staircase without a railing... but that feels too dangerous to me... at the moment, there are only two of us. Two children are planned sooner or later... Many guest bathrooms have no window... if the ventilation is adequate...
