Hello,

suddenly a large number of ants are coming out from a baseboard. They seem to be coming from somewhere beneath the floor.

We have been living in the house since August. Since Friday, numerous ants have appeared in this corner. Last week, we turned on the underfloor heating, but at the same time, the landscaper was working on the terrace and the drainage strip near the roof edge.
Does anyone have experience with this?

We are considering the following possibilities: Either the ants have always been under the floor and are now emerging due to the warmth from the underfloor heating, or the landscaper accidentally damaged the wall during the excavation, providing the ants with an access point, or there was already a crack or hole in the exterior wall from the construction phase, but only now, after the garden was dug up, has an ant colony moved so close to the house that they are using this access.

Of course, we will contact the builder and wait to hear their opinion.

But perhaps someone here has experience with this and can offer tips or ideas about how this could happen.

Thank you very much!

First, take a look behind the baseboard.

They are nailed down permanently, and due to warranty reasons, we do not do any work ourselves. If anything needs to be done, it has to be carried out by the builder / developer.

A few traps have appeared.

After finishing our garden this year, we also found some in the candy cupboard.

I then observed for 2-3 days where they were coming from. They actually managed to get through the seal of the front door and then moved along the tile skirting into the living room.

I bought traps at the hardware store, and after one week, they were gone.

You seem to be assuming it’s a construction defect right away? Why is that?
These critters come in through every corner and crack, as Tom mentioned, even through seals. No one is safe from them, not even in a new building.

Your former site manager is not your new landlord. Please take responsibility for your own house. Nobody will come just to chase away every ant, wasp, or even fly.

Remove the baseboard and check. Start treatment (bait stations, spread pesticide behind the baseboard).

I once had ants in my rental apartment – on the second floor, years after moving in. I’m also in favor of "just checking it yourself."
