ᐅ New Construction: Ants Emerging from the Baseboard?!

Hello,

suddenly a large number of ants are coming out from a baseboard. They seem to be coming from somewhere beneath the floor.

We have been living in the house since August. Since Friday, numerous ants have appeared in this corner. Last week, we turned on the underfloor heating, but at the same time, the landscaper was working on the terrace and the drainage strip near the roof edge.
Does anyone have experience with this?

We are considering the following possibilities: Either the ants have always been under the floor and are now emerging due to the warmth from the underfloor heating, or the landscaper accidentally damaged the wall during the excavation, providing the ants with an access point, or there was already a crack or hole in the exterior wall from the construction phase, but only now, after the garden was dug up, has an ant colony moved so close to the house that they are using this access.

Of course, we will contact the builder and wait to hear their opinion.

But perhaps someone here has experience with this and can offer tips or ideas about how this could happen.

Thank you very much!

Is it normal for this to look like ants after 1.5 months, or should I start to worry? The baseboards look like this all around the room, not just on the exterior walls.
Also, it is damp—almost wet—underneath the laminate flooring.

Did you install the flooring yourselves? How is the screed drying?

I would call the builder/developer now.

Sorry, general contractor, not developer!
We have already contacted him and are waiting for his response.
I think now we really need our own expert to take a close look at it.
It wasn’t even an inexpensive home construction.
And everything had just been completed so that we felt comfortable and settled in—

How did you detect the moisture under the flooring? After removing the baseboards?

Yes, whether it is under the entire floor, I do not know. I only see the small edge where the laminate meets the vapor barrier and the barrier meets the wall.

In my opinion, that is mold, yes. How long was the screed allowed to dry before the vapor barrier and laminate flooring were installed?

Ants are a real nuisance. Once you have them... we had them every spring and occasionally in between at our old rental apartment. It was a first occupancy after renovation – the whole building up to the top floor (4th floor) was affected. Here in our house too, after we renovated, but only on the ground floor. They were probably there before as well. We spray ant poison along the baseboards (be careful with children and pets) and also use bait stations, which keeps them under control. Only the ants themselves know where they come from. Well, we have an older building, and you can’t really make it completely sealed anyway. But ants in a new build combined with mold and moisture in the floor is something that definitely gets my attention.
