We received a shell construction from my wife’s parents to complete, and we are now considering how to address the energy and electricity requirements.
Our goal is to use renewable energy as much as possible, especially since there are subsidies available.
It would be great if we could get everything from a single source. My wife is leaning towards wood heating, which I also like since we have easy access to affordable wood and space to store it.
But what about electricity? Solar technology seems to be our only real option there.
We have also looked into a combined heat and power (CHP) unit, but the costs are quite high. However, since the parents’ house is also on the property, it could be an alternative to supply both buildings. The parents’ house currently uses gas heating.
So many questions, but I hope to get good advice here.
Best regards

Hello,
It is advisable to consult an MEP planner and an energy consultant for this!

That will certainly make it easier to consult the energy consultant about our project.

This kind of wishful thinking from non-professionals is understandable, but it does not lead to a financially reliable solution, as every construction project is individual and specific. From my experience as a planner and expert, I can only offer the following rule of thumb: What makes sense and is effective for A may barely apply to B and could turn into a money pit for C! Furthermore, energy consultants (EB) are not a protected professional title! The person commissioned should at least be a building services engineer or, for example, a civil engineer! Best regards

K.Brodbeck28 Mar 2013 07:05Hello Zwergnase,
I really appreciate reading that you want to limit your energy consumption to renewable sources.
In fact, I almost fully agree with the previous speaker. I have had the opportunity to implement several different concepts (always in collaboration with a building services engineer) that go in this direction. I am not sure if I fully understood your intention. Do you want to cover all of your energy needs with renewable energy?
Kind regards
