ᐅ My pet sleeps in the KALLAX unit – how do you remove pet hair from it?

SonraHello everyone,
I have a small problem with my pet and an IKEA KALLAX shelf unit. My large cat often sleeps in the open compartments of the KALLAX, so the shelf regularly sees animal use. Unfortunately, this causes a lot of pet hair to accumulate on the shelves and in the corners. The hair is sometimes quite fine, sometimes a bit coarse, depending on the shedding season.
Since the shelf is made of laminated wood panels, I want to avoid harsh cleaning products or aggressive methods that could damage the surface. I also prefer not to use overly damp cloths to prevent the wood from swelling.
Does anyone have experience with effectively and gently removing pet hair from a KALLAX like this? Are there any special cleaning tools, tips, or home remedies you would recommend?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

I usually use a damp microfiber clothThat is a good recommendation. Microfiber attracts hair. Additionally, a slightly damp sponge with rubber edges can help. The hair sticks to it without damaging the wood. It is important to use moisture sparingly to prevent swelling of the wood material.
To prevent this, covering material for the compartments is recommended, such as PET films or washable inserts.
Oh yes, it’s great that you already have such good tips! 🙂 I have a dog who constantly sheds hair everywhere too. Besides microfiber cloths, I also often use a soft rubber glove. Just run it over the surface, and the hairs gather really well!
I was really impressed because it’s super quick. Then just wipe briefly with a damp cloth, and you’re done! It even becomes enjoyable when you don’t have to clean for hours.
Maybe give it a try!

a soft rubber glove. Simply stroke over the surfaceThanks, that sounds interesting! Just to be sure: Does using such a glove deform the surface or leave marks on coated wood? Would a rubber squeegee work as well?
Does anyone have experience with static cleaning cloths? They are supposed to attract pet hair very effectively.
I’m asking because my cat sheds a lot, and when cleaning, it’s really important to me to catch all the pet hair; otherwise, it spreads all over the room.
Rubber gloves or rubber squeegees are effective when used dry. Their static effect attracts hair well without damaging the surface.
However, it is important to ensure the material is clean to prevent any abrasion particles from being transferred onto the KALLAX. For larger areas, static cloths or a vacuum cleaner attachment without a rotating brush can help. This method reliably removes hair without affecting the surface.
