Hello everyone,

I recently rearranged my KALLAX shelf after installing new laminate flooring in the room. Since then, the shelf has been slightly tilted and doesn’t sit completely level, which wasn’t the case before.

I made sure the floor is clean and flat, and placed the shelf straight against the wall. But obviously, it’s still not fully stable.

My question is: what could be causing my KALLAX shelf to lean slightly after moving it onto laminate? Is it due to the floor surface (such as unevenness in the laminate), or is there something specific about the shelf that needs to be considered when placing it on a harder, perhaps less flexible floor?

Has anyone experienced this issue? Are there any tips on how to stabilize and level the shelf without rebuilding it? I look forward to your advice!

Hello tartore,

First of all: your issue is actually quite common and often affects furniture placed on laminate or other hard flooring.

The problem usually arises due to very slight unevenness in the subfloor. Although laminate floors are installed level, small height differences of a few millimeters are normal. On carpet or other soft flooring, furniture often compensates for these minor irregularities automatically because the surface gives slightly – laminate does not.

Here is a brief explanation of why the shelf is tilted:
- Laminate does not bend or give way if one supporting point is slightly higher
- The feet or base of the KALLAX shelf do not have adjustable legs
- This causes the furniture to wobble or stand unevenly when one corner rests on a small uneven spot in the laminate

My suggestion would be to level the furniture using shims or furniture wedges. There are special furniture glides with height adjustment that can be placed under shelves to solve this problem.

Additionally: check with a spirit level to see if the shelf is truly uneven or if the wall is affecting your perception.

Summary:
1. Laminate often has tiny uneven spots.
2. KALLAX shelf has no height adjustment.
3. Furniture wedges or adjustable feet can fix the problem.

If you need more detailed advice on buying furniture wedges, feel free to ask!

Exactly! The laminate always looks perfect, but even the smallest unevenness becomes very noticeable once the furniture is placed on it! 🙂

I had the same issue with my KALLAX after installing the laminate flooring. I simply stuck some felt pads with built-in wedges under the legs, and now it’s rock solid!

If you want a quick fix: small pieces of wood, cardboard scraps, or even firm cardboard discs can work as a temporary solution until you get proper furniture shims. It’s really a fast and effective way to fix the problem 😉

Don’t get discouraged, it’s easy to fix! Good luck with it, and let us know if it worked!

The shelf is tilted because the floor is not completely level.

Exactly, KALLAX feet are fixed.

The best solution is to use furniture shims or attach adjustable feet.
