We like two-panel windows (without a central mullion). They will probably be made of uPVC. Do such windows make sense at a width of 100 cm (40 inches)? Or are the panels then too narrow and impractical? The same question applies to the patio door: it will be 113 cm (45 inches) wide. Is it possible to have two panels here, or does everything become too narrow?

Hello Uwe, okay... Double-leaf patio doors with a width of 125 cm (50 inches) could still fit in our place as well...
Could you measure the width of the opening on your 1.25 m (4 ft 1 in) window when one sash is open? Thanks.
Best regards, Steffi
Here’s another photo from the inside.
I’ve now widened the patio doors to 125 cm (50 inches):

Are 47cm (19 inches) wide enough for a quick exit? It seems quite narrow to me. What do you think? Best regards, Steffi.Way too narrow – and having to open both leaves every time is quite impractical. You’ll only regret that later...
Hello Sebastian, I feared that. If I widen the patio doors to 125cm (49 inches), I end up with about 53cm (21 inches) clear opening width for one panel (that’s my calculated estimate... I don’t have such a door in front of me... maybe Uwe can give me an exact value on Sunday). Is that still practical enough? Best regards, Steffi

Sebastian7910 Nov 2015 11:01I would still say no – to be able to get out somewhat comfortably, I would choose a 73cm (29 inches) door.
But since it’s a terrace, you often have a tray or something similar in your hand, so the door should be at least 83cm (33 inches) wide – preferably a bit wider.
Honestly, I would let practicality decide here rather than the appearance.
