ᐅ Minimum width for a double-leaf window or patio door?

We like two-panel windows (without a central mullion). They will probably be made of uPVC. Do such windows make sense at a width of 100 cm (40 inches)? Or are the panels then too narrow and impractical? The same question applies to the patio door: it will be 113 cm (45 inches) wide. Is it possible to have two panels here, or does everything become too narrow?

Best regards, Steffi33

Here is another picture of one of the opened single-leaf patio doors.
It does stick out quite a bit into the room, but it’s probably the better solution:

Terrace area with wooden table and chairs under a pergola; glass doors leading to the kitchen.

Hello,

we have patio doors (triple-glazed) measuring 2.34 m by 1.17 m (7 ft 8 in by 3 ft 10 in). Therefore, a single-leaf door should also be easily manageable for you without any issues related to the weight of the element.

Based on the passage width alone, I would not choose a patio door narrower than 80 cm (31.5 inches).

Regards,

As a former owner of windows with muntins, here’s a small tip:
Make sure to order windows with internal muntins only. Otherwise, you’ll have a lot of fun cleaning the windows.

Oh no... we now also have windows with a vertical Viennese grille. I have absolutely no problem with that... A proper "Viennese grille" just looks better to me.. it’s not so “fussy.” Those narrow internal bars somehow look like they’re from the 90s.. Many single-family houses from that time have that here.. But that’s just my personal taste.. maybe it’s still very modern after all..

That’s up to you. We had one vertical and two horizontal muntins, so each window had 48 corners.
