Our construction company is charging about 23,000 for the painting work in our planned single-family house with 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft) of living space and a ceiling height of 2.70 m (8 ft 10 in). In the basement, only rough plastering will be done, while in the ground floor and attic, surfaces will be plastered, sanded, covered with textured paint fleece, and painted.

For financial reasons, we will probably have to do it ourselves and plan to use paint fleece instead of wallpaper.

What do you think we should budget for materials? That is, filler, joint tape, corner protectors, primer, paint fleece, and paint? About 10,000?

Thanks for your input. Oh, and how long do you think an amateur would roughly need to complete this? About 4 weeks?

Thank you for the explanations. I probably misunderstood you regarding the 150m² (1,615 sq ft), as you were apparently referring to the floor area of the rooms to be worked on, while I assumed it meant the surface area to be painted.

The original poster mentioned a living area of 150 m² (1,615 sq ft).
So, significantly more surface to paint...

Keep in mind that you won’t find a simple price per square meter, as requirements vary. Using fleece increases wall costs by about 20%. Using woodchip wallpaper costs about the same as well-smoothed and painted walls. fiberglass wallpaper plus latex paint in wet rooms is quite expensive but replaces tiled surfaces and is fully scuff-resistant. Small details like decorative moldings add character but also increase costs. White lacquered stair railings and similar elements are quite costly. And so on.

But what about applying a Q3 skim coat to drywall and then painting it immediately? Has anyone had experience with this? Shouldn’t it work if you prime it first with a deep primer, except for possible cracking?

Yes, but I am not satisfied with it. It looks good at first, then cracks appear. In my opinion, there should be a fleece applied on top. When we renovate the stairwell, we will do it that way.

But then Q2 + fleece + paint would be sufficient, right?
