Hello friends,
Winter is almost here. I would like to prepare my lawn for winter, if that is even possible. I have heard that it is still recommended to mow, fertilize, and scarify the lawn now, so that it will look especially good in spring.

You actually don’t need to prepare the lawn for winter. Just mow it now, and that’s it. The snow cover provides the best protection for the lawn. After that, it’s out of your hands.

All the best.

Anyone who wants to keep their lawn healthy over the winter should apply fertilizer again in autumn to ensure there are enough nutrients for the cold season. Once it starts to freeze, the lawn should not be walked on because the grass blades can break, which is harmful.

The best winter protection for the lawn is a continuous snow cover. This provides optimal protection, allowing the lawn to remain undisturbed until spring. It is not ideal when it is very cold and there is no snow cover; in such conditions, it is better to avoid walking on the lawn, as this could cause damage.

If you clean up the leaves thoroughly, the lawn usually won’t suffer much. However, it’s best to avoid having too much snow piled up in one spot. Often, snow is shoveled into the garden, and in spring, this can lead to a bare patch in the lawn at that location.

The thread is a bit older, but the topic is still relevant.
I also wondered how to prepare my lawn for winter because it’s so WARM. Basically the opposite of your problem.

While searching, I came across a good article. For example, I would have never thought that on warmer days you must not forget to water, because plants don’t freeze but can actually dry out due to the warm sunlight!

Enjoy your hopefully soon to be blooming garden again!
