Hello,

I would like to control all the roller shutters in my new build either via a touch display or Alexa.
The roller shutters have elero motors.

The window manufacturer suggested Loxone, but for 17 roller shutters, the cost comes to €4000.

Can anyone recommend more affordable alternatives?

Ok, so a DIY solution no longer counts as one if you keep modifying it further.

I need to write that down.

So, in your opinion, it’s better not to have the option to tinker at all and just discard the whole setup if the manufacturer stops supporting the devices for whatever reason?

I wrote that the devices have been running error-free for years in my system. I never said that I made any modifications to them or that such changes are absolutely necessary, but the option is there to make modifications if it should be necessary for some reason. That’s a slight difference from what you inferred. This option doesn’t exist with Bosch devices.

...or do you already count installation and connection as tinkering?

Regarding the term "DIY," which has been used quite loosely lately, especially in the context of smart homes, I would like to share some thoughts. It seems that many people associate the term with something negative, including myself to some extent, even though I often refer to myself and am referred to by others as a "DIYer and tinkerer." However, in the interest of resource conservation and considering our international lag in patent applications, please remember that without DIYers and tinkerers like Leonardo da Vinci, Edison, R. Bosch, Mercedes, Siemens, and Elon Musk, our world would be very different (today, my highly educated brother—who holds a PhD, a master’s degree, and an engineering diploma—referred to Tesla as a “DIY workshop” because they’re always tweaking their car firmware, of course, after ordering one himself 🙄 :p).
So what I want to say is: DIY is not inherently bad; it often represents the drive to make a lot out of very little (and better). From an IT perspective, for example, KNX is nearly impossible to install properly. (This text just reflects my amateur opinion, barely influenced by a good glass of red wine.)
