ᐅ Looking for ideas for a sloped building plot

Hello everyone,

We currently have the opportunity to purchase a sloped plot of land. The garden faces south, with the road located above the property to the north. Within a depth of 20 meters (65.6 feet), there is a 2-meter (6.6 feet) slope. The plot is 20 meters (65.6 feet) wide and approximately 50 meters (164 feet) deep.

I would like to gather some ideas online on how such a plot could be developed. I have already tried many search terms on Google, but mostly get images of houses located above the road (with an upward slope on the property).

My question is: what should I search for to find inspiration for the opposite situation? For our plot, a walk-out basement seems like a possible option, is that correct?

Maybe you can help me with some search keywords for Google. Before we commit to the purchase, I would like to get some ideas about what kind of development is feasible.

Hello Micha

Look forward to it, because you will have step-free access to the ground floor.
We now also have a plot just like you described. Our current residence has a slope in front of the house,
and we still have 36 steps to the ground floor.

The garage in the new build is on the same level as the ground floor; the basement faces the garden.

Our neighbor, as you were also considering, has the living area in the basement. He accesses the sleeping area
at the same level as the garage.

Hello Polle 1967,

does that mean you would recommend having the bedrooms on the ground floor and living areas upstairs?
Does that mean your neighbor’s garage is at ground floor level and he goes down a few steps to reach the front door?

Hello Micha

Yes, our neighbor lives in the basement, enters from the garage into the ground floor, and has the front door on the ground floor.
We have our bedrooms on the upper floor, enter from the garage into the ground floor, and have the front door on the ground floor.

That means he has to go to the ground floor from the garage and carry the groceries down the stairs to the living area? Is that practical? I'm still not sure about this.

We have also come across the option of sleeping in the basement (UG) in a building savings brochure; there, the residents enter the house through the front door into the ground floor (EG), which includes the living areas, and go down to the basement (UG) to sleep.

Whether this is practical, I cannot tell you; the neighbor is not yet living in the house.

What does the zoning plan / development plan for the plot look like? Everything depends on that.
