Hello everyone,
We would like to lower the ceiling in the living/dining area, which is about 38m2 (410 sq ft), and install LED spotlights throughout. My question is: Has anyone done this before? Do the LED spotlights provide enough light? How does the room look as a result (pictures would be great )? Do you have any alternative design suggestions?
Best regards,
Igor

Hello everyone,
we would like to install a dropped ceiling in the living/dining area, which is about 38m2 (409 sq ft) in size, and fit it with LED spotlights. My question is: Has anyone done this before? Do the LED spotlights provide enough light? How does the room feel with this setup (pictures would be great )? Do you perhaps have alternative design suggestions?
Best regards,
I have also been looking into this, but with a solid wood ceiling. Some people advise against spotlights or recessed lights and prefer indirect lighting instead. With a dropped ceiling, you could use light coves to create indirect lighting. Despite this, I will install recessed lights in the open-plan area (living room, dining room, and kitchen). However, a pendant lamp will be installed over the dining table. A dropped ceiling offers more flexibility in case the table’s exact position isn’t decided yet. Another pendant lamp could also be installed above the kitchen island to create a visual separation between the kitchen and dining area. Along the full width of the living/dining area, I have prepared for LED strips (in aluminum channels, etc.) to provide indirect lighting.

@haydee Wow, only 5 spotlights in 16 sqm (172 sq ft). We have about 10 in just under 12 sqm (129 sq ft).
In general, I would only use spotlights where you really need strong, focused lighting. Over the dining area, where a cozy atmosphere is important, I wouldn’t choose that.
Here is our hallway with 11 spotlights:
