Hello everyone,

which lasts longer and stays looking good longer? Brick cladding or white render?
We are unsure whether to choose brick cladding or white render. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks for your advice

The gray color looks dull. If you are going with brick, then classic red is the way to go.

Exactly. A nice red or red-multicolored brick. I find white and yellow-beige unattractive, as well as anything darker than red. And please make it smooth, but not hammered finish.

So now you know my taste – but that doesn't help you with your house, does it?

When it comes to facing bricks, I always prefer the classic red. Whether you choose plaster or facing bricks... well, that’s purely a matter of taste... with plaster you remain flexible later on, but with bricks you can really make a big mistake (as previous posters have already mentioned... yellow or white... houses like those are almost impossible to sell nowadays ).

I would also always go for the red tones, as there are so many beautiful options and, at least for us, they are timeless.

I never asked myself this question as a North German.
Facing bricks are a must,

Oh, nonsense, that’s just tourist folklore. Nordlys’ house has neither facing bricks nor a thatched roof or captain’s gable. Still, it is authentic for its North German location, simply because it is "without any unnecessary frills or fuss." What North German style means can vary for everyone; for me, for example, it is the Klöntür (traditional plank door).

I find that a house clad with rough mett sausage is more typical for the Münsterland region than for Holstein.

The roof and windows of course anthracite.

That is actually not "original" or typical for the local landscape at all.

I find the brick shown very stylish. Whether it is typical or not doesn’t really matter to me.
Of course, here in Schleswig-Holstein, we have traditionally fired reddish bricks to protect facades from the weather, and that is quite obvious. But already in the 19th century, more and more plastered facades appeared, sometimes very colorful—blue, red, yellow, anything was allowed. Colored painted windows were common too. For those interested in historical examples like this, they should visit Schleswig Holm.
So, brick facades are indeed common here, but not the only option by any means.
Nowadays, in Schleswig-Holstein, besides brick facades, plastered ones are often built, for price reasons or timber. Bungalows are more typical, as land is relatively inexpensive, often with 1.5 stories and very small knee walls. Hip roofs or half-hipped roofs (“Dutch gables”) are popular.
Compared, for example, to North Rhine-Westphalia, where we have relatives, I also notice that we order far fewer roller shutters or external blinds but very often secondary doors. Garage omission is also common. And smart home systems, according to our electricians, are practically never ordered.
