So, I'm starting a new topic here to avoid overloading the house pictures thread.

I find the sliding doors for ovens quite interesting – but do they really offer any added value? I was also surprised to read that ovens now seem to be adopting a feature I dislike in microwaves: instead of setting temperature and possibly time, you input the "dimensions" of the food?! What is that supposed to achieve?! Personally, I think it’s terrible.

This is what social decline looks like. How does it feel to be at the bottom of society?

He sadly takes the watery mess he calls coffee from his Thermomix. He’s ashamed to serve this to his guests but has nothing better to offer. Soon they’ll go to where the top brand cooks. He knows it and forces a strained smile.

That’s how it goes: hot yesterday, junk today. Lost in thought, he wipes over the TM5, a symbol of his social downfall. The budget device, representing low performance, outperformed for a mere 8000€ (about $8,500). The appliance for underachievers like him. Living on welfare is now only a KitchenAid away.

The new hot trend is the combi steamer. You don’t even have to talk to your guests anymore—that’s why it’s called “dialog-”. The next generation will even be able to welcome guests at home while you’re away. On vacation, or something.

These days everything moves faster, including the fall. The spot in the sun he bought for just 1200€ (about $1,270) doesn’t last long. The technology you have to own comes out every year. He can’t keep up. His neighbors know it too; he senses it in their pitying looks whenever they appear from their iPhone 42xpg+ultra, into which they increasingly immerse themselves with VR gear. Sometimes they don’t even greet him anymore. That’s how social isolation works. Where can he go now? Should he break his principles and ask the top brand for a consumer loan? He has almost no chance left. Can he afford it? The top brand or a new phone? Maybe both? The scrap value of his prehistoric kitchen appliance certainly won’t get him very far.

That’s how it is. Until yesterday, I didn’t even know such a thing existed. Now I feel somewhat connected to the TM owners—I already feel a bit of pity for them.

But you kind of start to worry that this might soon become reality... :P

Pah! Next week, Aldi Süd is offering a Thermomix copy for under 300 euros. The decline of standards.

Yes, the thing from Aldi is a bad joke. It’s like comparing a cheap smartphone to an iPhone. Both can make calls... but that’s about it.

Hmm... back in 2016, I looked into comparison tests: the budget devices aren’t as good as the TM, but they are still decent. For common use—chopping, blending, and cooking—there were hardly any differences, as far as I remember.
The one from Lidl is supposed to be even better than Aldi’s. So they come close to the performance needed for everyday use, but are still cheaper.
But the TM topic has already been discussed extensively here.

However, I wouldn’t call every smartphone that’s not an iPhone but is cheaper a cheap smartphone, like you just did, @Bookstar.
