So, I'm starting a new topic here to avoid overloading the house pictures thread.

I find the sliding doors for ovens quite interesting – but do they really offer any added value? I was also surprised to read that ovens now seem to be adopting a feature I dislike in microwaves: instead of setting temperature and possibly time, you input the "dimensions" of the food?! What is that supposed to achieve?! Personally, I think it’s terrible.

Thoughts?

Yes, I also think smart home assistants are completely overrated.

I only meant in the case of “already incurred costs.” It would be reasonable then. However, I do not see that situation applying here.

Does anyone have a TM that they use to make baby food? It seems like it would be perfect for that, I just realized.

I have cooked baby food myself – store-bought jars were rejected.
No TM.
The weaning phase was very short for us.

I'm considering getting a drawer-style bread slicer. Pros: one less item on the countertop, and crumbs don’t scatter everywhere. Cons: it occupies a drawer (and we likely only have 80cm (31.5 inches) deep drawers, so that’s 20cm (8 inches) less space available), our current one works perfectly fine and doesn’t need replacing anytime soon. Plus, it’s a good one. Any opinions?

I would keep the current slicer. With a drawer-style slicer, crumbs tend to scatter around in all corners, don’t they? Also, it takes up a lot of storage space. Depending on how much countertop space you have, you can always put the regular slicer away temporarily if you need space—you can move it around. The slicer in the drawer permanently uses up a convenient and easily accessible storage spot.

By the way, my bread slicer is stored on a shelf in the utility room. I eventually stopped using it altogether. It never really worked well for fresh bread, so I got used to slicing bread by hand. It’s a bit more personal that way, and I’ve gotten better at it. Plus, the crumbs are easier to clean up quickly.

The crumbs just stay in the drawer, where in my opinion they bother much less than being spread out on the countertop. And every now and then, you can vacuum them out, which you have to do in storage drawers anyway (pieces of onion skins, sand from potatoes, etc.). My machine isn’t bothered by fresh bread either; it’s really great. I’m quite undecided.

What is your opinion on the Miele Dialog Oven? Is it necessary, or is the price of just under €8,000 (about $8,700) excessive?
