ᐅ Is insulating the exterior wall worthwhile or not?

Hello, I need your help. We have a single-family house built in 1976. The exterior plaster looks like eggshell plaster, as my wife calls it. So, it’s not really attractive. This led us to improve the outside appearance by adding a wooden facade with narrow horizontal slats. Insulation was not originally planned. After a conversation with our window installer (we also got new windows), he suggested installing mineral wool insulation in the substructure. The substructure is 30mm (1.2 inches) thick. He said it wouldn’t be much effort and would bring some benefits. I have read a lot but still don’t feel much wiser. Does it make sense to install mineral wool directly in the substructure? It can only be up to 40mm (1.6 inches) thick. Is it useful or better to leave it out as unnecessary?

The problem is that the substructure cannot be made stronger because otherwise we would have issues with the front door and the staircase leading to it. Everything would become too narrow. There simply isn't enough space. That’s why the question was whether I should put a thin insulation layer into the 3cm (1.2 inch) substructure or none at all.

Try searching for "ubakus" online. It allows you to simulate different constructions.
Isn’t it possible to include a step at the door, for example? It almost sounds like you might be mentally limiting yourself a bit. You basically have excellent conditions to do this really well.
You can also use PUR/PIR foam, for example (if you work very precisely). It has better thermal conductivity.

First, I would intensively check whether there are technical and aesthetic options for a thicker wall construction. We have just finished building with 20 cm (8 inches) of mineral wool insulation. If this is not possible, then definitely insulate with these 3 cm (1¼ inches)! Use material with very good performance values (instead of 040, use 032 or even better).
