Hello everyone,

we are currently planning and the idea was to skip the usual roller shutters and use other alternatives. The issue of sun protection is basically settled; now it’s more about darkening the rooms because our little one likes to sleep in very dark conditions, and most of our guests do as well. What options are there to make the room as dark as possible? Looking forward to your ideas.

Best regards,
Ingo

Maybe a bit old-fashioned, but possibly a highlight: shutters
or:
Opaque floor-length curtains. My grandmother never had roller shutters, and in her house, this has worked well for almost 130 years now.

However, you need to like it, and especially with shutters, you have to check whether you are allowed to install them. I think shutters have a very special charm.

Roller blinds are available in the same patterns as pleated blinds because the base material is identical. Unfortunately, all products installed from the inside never achieve the same level of darkness as an external shutter, unless it is a roof window (Velux, Roto). Velux is leading in this area. Here, it is possible to use guide rails. With traditional windows, this is unfortunately not possible due to the shallower rebate depth.

I looked into this before. They probably won’t be completely airtight, but there’s no roller shutter box, and apart from the glass pane, there’s very little to clean.
However, they’re not exactly cheap, but plastic window versions are also available.

Let me tell you: this is not blackout shading, it only reduces the light. The room is still usable during the day without additional lighting.

Rooms can be easily and attractively darkened with pleated blinds. I can only recommend them.
