Hello,
we are planning to start building our house at the end of October / beginning of November.
We will be installing some Roto R8 roof windows, which according to the Roto website have the following specifications: "triple safety and thermal insulation glazing with anti-condensation coating and sound insulation (SSK 3)."
If we choose roller shutters, I would like to have them installed right away so that the electrical connection can be properly integrated with a switch. Alternatively, I am considering an internal blackout blind combined with an external sun screen.
Do you have any experience with the noise levels of roller shutters on roof windows, or are the plastic slats even noisier than rain falling directly on the glass?
Thank you

Do the solar roller shutters operate smoothly? I have read about issues with the batteries because they are exposed to low temperatures in winter.
I have watched installation videos for both the electric and solar-powered versions. The electric ones do not cover the internal cable routing. Solar roller shutters are probably easier to retrofit. The regular electric shutters have significantly less technology that can fail. Right now, I am considering something with a simple on/off switch like a light switch.
Blackout blinds plus a screen also cost around 200 euros per window, so the difference afterwards is not that big.
Does the roller shutter construction reduce the window area? Blackout blinds have a rail on each side that covers part of the window area.

I will wait first to see what the roofer charges for the electrical setup with installation. If it is significantly more expensive than the solar option, I can still switch back to solar.
The list price for the electrical option is 200 euros above the online price; let's see what they want to charge for installation.

Velux blinds usually come with remote controls. However, Velux also offers retrofit solutions that allow a switch to be installed.
We have roof windows with blinds. I wouldn’t want to be without them anymore. When it rains, the closed blinds are noticeably quieter than the windows.
