ᐅ Interior plaster – breathable

Good morning everyone,
which interior plaster would you recommend? We are building a brick house (Poroton S8) with 36.5cm (14 inches) thick bricks without external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) / external wall insulation. We want to maintain a certain level of breathability. Therefore, the plaster should be compatible with that.

Ecological and breathable, for example, is clay plaster. We have it in our current bathroom, and it’s incredible how much odor and moisture the plaster can absorb (and gradually release throughout the day). I can only recommend it, although it is not exactly cheap. Whether it makes sense for the entire house, I cannot judge. At least for bathrooms and kitchens, it works very well.

If you want breathable walls, drilling holes is your only option. Nothing else is breathable, no matter what kind of plaster you apply.

I was thinking of something like gypsum-cement plaster or lime-gypsum plaster. I’m not very familiar with those. Clay plaster sounds interesting. I’ll have to ask about it.

Breathability... okay... some people don’t want to understand it, or simply can’t. If you can’t contribute a reasonable comment, it’s better to refrain from posting—unless you just want to boost your stats.

By breathability, I mean the ability of different types of plaster to absorb and release moisture (of course, only in one direction, outward).

Great! Then I hope the plasterers apply it the right way around, so the plaster doesn’t end up transporting moisture from outside to inside.
