Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to remodel my kitchen and want to securely mount the IKEA Metod wall cabinets on various wall types. My main concern is the stability and appropriate fastening methods depending on the wall material. Specifically, my kitchen has a combination of a load-bearing concrete wall, drywall partitions made of gypsum board, and in some areas, a load-bearing brick wall.
I have reviewed the IKEA installation guide, but the instructions are quite general—for example, they recommend attaching the cabinets to studs or solid walls.
I’m interested in:
- What types of anchors or fasteners are best suited for the different wall types?
- How can I safely mount wall cabinets on drywall, which often does not support heavy loads?
- Are there any special tips or precautions when mounting on brick or concrete?
I would appreciate any experiences, recommendations on suitable tools or installation methods, and potential mistakes to avoid.
Thank you in advance!

Are there any special tips or precautions when installing on brick or concrete? For concrete walls, always use the correct drill bit (masonry bit) and a drill with a hammer function. This ensures clean holes and prevents cracks.
With brick, it helps not to place anchors too close to the edges to avoid damaging the brick. It is also important that the anchor is set into the solid brick and not just the mortar.

Avoid screwing directly into drywall without appropriate anchors. This is a crucial point – without suitable cavity anchors, drywall will easily break.
If possible, adding a counter batten behind the drywall can provide additional support.
In summary, I recommend:
- Always accurately identify the wall type before installation and check its stability
- Use heavy-duty anchors or chemical anchors for concrete
- Secure brick walls with plastic or long-shank anchors and longer screws
- For drywall, use only tested cavity anchors and, preferably, mount directly on the stud framework
- Ensure load distribution across multiple fastening points
Another tip: The Metod wall cabinets are designed to be compatible with each other and can be further stabilized using special brackets or mounting rails, especially for large cabinet areas.
This helps increase safety and optimally distribute the load capacity.
