Hello,

I will be moving soon and want to place the 160 cm (63 inches) Malm chest of drawers with 6 drawers in front of the foot end (not raised) of my 1.40 m (55 inches) wide Ikea bed (I don’t remember the name, it’s about 5.5 years old, rather grayish white, with a headboard – no longer listed on the website).

Normally, the Malm chest is supposed to be secured to the wall with brackets. However, I don’t see any way to attach the chest to the bed when placed like this.

Is it safe to place the Malm chest without additional fixing, or might the wider version be more prone to tipping over?

There are no children in the household who might pull themselves up on it anymore.

Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Hello,

of course, I definitely recommend securing the Malm chest of drawers.

If I had one, I would use it with common sense to prevent it from tipping over. That means not loading the drawers with very uneven weights and never opening more than one drawer at the same time. With the 160 cm (63 inches) wide Malm chest of drawers, my concerns would be limited anyway. And naturally, I wouldn’t have a child or a cat opening the drawers and jumping inside.
But as mentioned before, you should absolutely secure the Malm chest of drawers.

Many thanks for the response.

No children or cats present. Well, I’ll figure out how to secure it once everything is set up.

My initial idea was to connect the Malm to the foot end of the bed using two brackets, but the bracket won’t hold on the back panel of the Malm since the bed is narrower than the 1.60m (5 feet 3 inches) Malm. Or could the bracket that would be attached to the back panel of the Malm be glued on? Has anyone had experience with this?

Best regards

When a hip-high dresser tips over and you get buried under the underwear, that's quite serious.
