I recently bought two table tops from the Galant series at a flea market for a good price. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the table’s frame accounts for most of the cost. Now I’m looking for an affordable DIY solution. How likely do you think it is to successfully fit a GALANT top with VIKA legs?

the substructure for the Galant desk is essential because the tabletop alone is not load-bearing and is not designed for directly attaching legs. If you screw the Vika legs on like that, the desk will be statically indeterminate, causing it to wobble, bend, and distort like a parallelogram.
Normally, you should be able to get the metal frame (substructure) separately from Ikea, since the Galant desk can be configured there like a kitchen cabinet.
Another option is simply to place two Expedit shelving units (2x2) under the tabletop on the sides, which also allows you to use the desk for storage at the same time.

IKEA-Profi12 Jul 2012 23:21The explanation regarding the board is very clear. You can definitely get the frame separately; however, attaching the mounting plate for the VIKA legs is difficult because of the fixed thread specifications.
