Hello everyone, I’m facing the following issue: I bought an Ikea Besta shelving unit and now want to organize all the cables for the TV, receiver, sound system, and other devices neatly and as invisibly as possible. The back is open, and although there are holes for cables, how can I properly manage the cable clutter? Are there recommended solutions to not only hide the cables visually but also route them in a way that keeps them easily accessible and prevents kinks or damage? Maybe someone knows practical products or tricks specifically for this typical Besta configuration. Thanks in advance for helpful tips!

Also important: Do not bundle cables too tightly to avoid damage from bending. Cable ducts with clips are often ideal because they are removable and reusable. Simply attach them to the bottom of the shelf, place the cables inside, and close the cover.

Thanks for the additional advice. What about power cables and possible heat generation inside such a closed cable duct? Is this safe, or should specific distances or materials be considered? I want to avoid any fire hazard but also don’t want to end up with an open cable mess on the back.

In general, it is important to use cable conduits made from materials with good thermal conductivity or at least fire resistance to prevent heat buildup. Make sure that electrical cables are not completely enclosed and are properly ventilated. Some cable conduits have ventilation slots or can be installed openly to minimize heat development. It is also essential that the electrical cables are properly sized and intact, without any damage. In an open back panel like the Ikea Besta, the risk of overheating during normal use is very low, as long as the cables are not tightly packed.

This is an important point. Many people underestimate the risk of running cables in tight or completely enclosed conduits, especially when multiple thick electrical cables are bundled together. I recommend always paying attention to the thermal load on the cables and, if necessary, using separate conduits for each function or device. Air circulation and flexible routing should take priority to avoid problems later on.

Thank you for the critical addition! I will definitely take that into account in my planning. Finally, I am interested to know if anyone has experience with special cable grommets for Ikea Besta that not only help keep things organized but are also visually appealing? I appreciate any tips for a neat and stylish solution.
