Hello everyone,
we are currently starting to think about the bathroom.
For the bathtub, we want a 180 x 80 cm (71 x 31.5 inches) tub with a center drain and sufficient filling volume. There are tubs with relatively large external dimensions, but when you lie down, you can hardly fit both legs in the water.
We have now come across the Ideal Standard Hotline bathtub.
Based on the dimensions and description, it seems to have everything we need. I’m just a bit suspicious of the relatively low price...
So far, I have found the following criteria online:
- Sanitary acrylic (yes, we don’t want steel)
- Preferably reinforced rim and bottom
Can anyone say anything about this tub, or is there something hidden that makes it “low quality”?
Best regards
Stockheim

I'm just a bit skeptical because of the relatively low price... Compare it with other tubs. A large online bathroom retailer currently lists 168 tubs measuring 180 cm x 80 cm (71 inches x 31.5 inches) starting at 177 euros. So your "around 200" is reasonable, as long as we’re only talking about the tub itself without accessories, delivery, or installation.
That’s true.
However, I also wanted to point out that when building a house, it is not a given that you can arrange your own affordable product, which the contractor will then install and guarantee.
And installing a bathtub yourself in your new build—where do personal contributions begin? Where do they end so that they remain acceptable?
Just be prepared that a certified contractor will most likely not agree to that.

Bieber081510 Jan 2017 13:31The original poster didn’t provide many details about the conditions, but let’s assume it’s a new single-family house construction. In that case, the general contractor, main contractor, construction manager, or tradespeople will usually send you to a sanitaryware showroom for the product selection...

Stockheim10 Jan 2017 14:23I was only concerned about the bathtub itself and whether it is any good.
There are often reports of cheap brands or products where something (material, workmanship) is not up to standard.
There are also bathtubs with similar dimensions and shape that cost three times as much.

Haha, I’m a bit unfocused today, sorry.
Of course, with local authorized dealers, this bathtub can cost three to four times as much, so you shouldn’t be surprised that online prices, which are roughly the same across most sites, are much lower. According to the recommended retail price, it costs just under €400...
