ᐅ How do I plan the installation of Ikea Metod LED lighting effects?

jamieHello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of Ikea Metod LED effects in my kitchen and want to approach the planning as thoroughly as possible. My question is: What is the best way to start planning the entire electrical system and installation for the Metod LED strips? What preparatory work should I complete to make the actual installation as straightforward as possible? I am especially interested if anyone has recommendations on how to best plan the power supply, possible cable concealment, and control using suitable dimmers or remote controls, so that everything looks neat and functions well in the end. Are there any practical tips for precise measurements and complying with Ikea’s installation guidelines that I should be aware of? Thanks for your help!

First, measure the exact space required for the LED strips. Then plan the power source nearby, ideally with a dedicated circuit breaker. Use cable ducts or at least covers to neatly conceal the cables. Mount dimmers or control units preferably directly behind the cabinets so they are not visible.
For planning the Ikea Metod LED effects, it is important to first design the entire electrical wiring in a structured way.
- Accurately measure the total length of the LED strips to determine the correct number of modules.
- Check the maximum load capacity of your existing electrical circuits; although LED strips have low power consumption, they should not be simply plugged into any random outlet.
- Cable routing should be done so that no sharp edges can damage the cables. Cable ducts or channels are highly recommended for this purpose.
- Control of the LEDs via the Ikea Fyrtur dimmer or corresponding remote controls should be taken into account during planning. Make sure the dimmer location remains easily accessible.
The following standards and requirements from Ikea are described in detail in their manual, so I recommend reading the installation instructions thoroughly in advance to connect the electronics correctly.

The standard LED strips from Ikea require 12 V, so appropriate transformers are recommended. Make sure to place the transformers in a cool, dry location. Dimmers should, if possible, be centrally controlled for all LED strips. When routing the cables, always allow enough slack to enable future modifications.

However, I’m wondering if it makes sense to plan multiple separate circuits for individual LED sections to control different areas independently, or if it’s better to keep everything centralized? Does anyone have practical experience using multiple dimming circuits with Ikea Metod LED effects? Also, how does voltage drop affect longer LED strips? I’m concerned that the lights at the end of the run might not shine evenly.
