Hello everyone, I’ve been thinking about how to use furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series to create more order in a children’s room. I’m particularly interested in the combinations and possible uses of the Hemnes furniture to store toys, books, and clothes in an organized and easily accessible way. The series includes dressers, shelves, beds with storage, and wardrobes – but how can this be put into practical use in everyday life so that it not only saves space but also makes tidying up easier for children? I’m very much looking forward to suggestions on how you specifically use or repurpose Hemnes furniture to achieve long-term organization in a children’s room.

Hello admirlu, your question is very well formulated because it not only asks for practical solutions but also considers the daily life of the children. Hemnes is popular mainly due to its classic appearance and solid construction, but when it comes to organization, the combination of the individual modules really makes the difference.

The dressers are ideal for smaller toys or clothing if you use drawer dividers. This makes it easier to keep things organized and prevents chaos inside. You can also complement the shelves with baskets or boxes, which creates flexible storage space and can be sorted by age groups.

A Hemnes bed with under-bed drawers is great for bedding or seasonal clothing when not everything fits in the wardrobe.

Overall, I would recommend thinking from top to bottom: shelves for easily accessible items, drawers sorted by type, and wardrobes more for larger items.

I’m happy to provide more detailed tips on labeling and child-friendly use if that would be helpful.

I use Hemnes shelves with boxes from Ikea inside. This way, the children can quickly organize their things themselves. The dressers are perfect for small items. Hemnes beds with drawers are great for toys that don't need to be taken out frequently.

I find this point particularly interesting because tidiness is often equated simply with storage space, without considering usability. More storage alone does not necessarily mean better organization. If the furniture is confusing or hard to use, the space is of little value.

I wonder whether the Ikea Hemnes range is really the best choice when aiming for long-term order. What about modular alternatives that can be adapted flexibly? Children’s needs often change significantly as they grow.

Also, is the classic Hemnes look really so beneficial for a child’s room that you might forgo adaptability? Or is it more worthwhile to complement it with other organizing tools such as dividers, boxes, and so on?

I see Hemnes primarily as a solid basic furnishing. Dressers for clothes, shelves with baskets for toys, and open compartments for books. That is usually sufficient. The drawers are easy to organize, which encourages children to tidy up. Simple and efficient.

Hey everyone! I believe one of the biggest helpers for keeping a child’s room organized with Hemnes furniture is the smooth drawer glides. Kids love being able to easily pull things out!

- The Hemnes dressers in 3- or 4-drawer versions are perfect for age-appropriate sorting of clothes or toys
- Shelves with colorful bins encourage kids to join in tidying up (for example, one color for puzzles, another for cars, etc.)
- The open shelving units practically invite displaying favorite books, which helps keep things clear

Sometimes just a nice sticker or picture on the bin is enough for the kids to know where everything belongs. This way, tidying up becomes a game instead of stress. 😄
