Good morning everyone, I am planning to furnish a teenager's room with furniture from the Brimnes series by Ikea, aiming to make it as functional and space-saving as possible. My specific question is: How can Ikea Brimnes be used most effectively in a teenager's room to maximize storage space while creating a comfortable atmosphere for a teen and providing flexible options for school, leisure, and possibly hosting friends? I am especially interested in tips on the best combinations and arrangements of the components, particularly for small to medium-sized rooms around 10-12 m² (108-129 sq ft). Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Ergonomics under the Brimnes loft bed are key; here is my detailed recommendation:

- Headroom: The standard height of the Brimnes loft bed is approximately 180 cm (71 inches). The desk underneath has a regular desk height of about 73 cm (29 inches). This leaves around 100 cm (39 inches) of space between the desktop and the underside of the bed, which is enough to avoid feeling cramped when seated.
- Lighting: In addition to a fixed ceiling light, a desk task lamp is recommended. Ideally, choose an adjustable LED lamp with variable brightness to support both focused studying and comfortable reading.
- Cable management: Brimnes furniture includes built-in holes for cable routing. If not available, use cable channels or clips under the desk. A power strip with surge protection is essential.
- Additionally, there are Brimnes desks with an attached shelving unit, which vertically expands the workspace and can also house cables.

For a tidy work surface and comfortable lighting, it is advisable to choose a matte tabletop to prevent unpleasant reflections.

Do you need more detailed measurements or recommendations for other furniture pieces from the series?

Thanks again for the numerous tips. The detailed explanation regarding ergonomics and cable management is especially helpful. I am currently trying to sketch the furniture online – if anyone has useful advice on how to visually plan rooms using IKEA furniture (specifically the Brimnes series), I would appreciate it.

For visual planning, I recommend the official IKEA planner tool, which allows you to incorporate Brimnes furniture and view the room in 3D. This also helps to check how doors and drawers open. Alternatively, SketchUp can be used with appropriate IKEA models.
