Gardening has been practiced since prehistoric times. Various garden styles have developed all over the world. This development continues to the present day. The ancient Egyptians, Romans, Assyrians, Babylonians, and others all engaged in the art of garden design.
It can be said that gardens have accompanied humans throughout history.

You could put it that way, yes. Even in the Stone Age, when humans became settled, they started cultivating plants. When humans were still hunters, they took from nature whatever was available—berries, fruits, mushrooms, and so on. However, since almost nothing could be gathered in winter, they began preserving food in various ways. With planned cultivation, crops could be harvested directly on site, giving more control over the plants. There are many types of gardens: for example, vegetable gardens, flower gardens, herb gardens, or ornamental gardens. There are also combinations of these, meaning gardens where vegetables and flowers are grown together.

I find these hanging gardens interesting. So the idea sounds intriguing. Unfortunately, there are no photos of the ancient wonders. But maybe modern gardeners have revived this concept. I would be curious to learn how to create such a garden. I believe they are stepped platforms where predominantly "hanging" plants are grown, right?

Hi,

These hanging gardens must have been truly breathtaking. I honestly wouldn’t know if anything like that still exists today. But in ancient times, there were apparently a few of them. For example, the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis in Babylon. This was supposedly the very first large botanical garden ever.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Hello!

The city of Babylon was located in what is now Iraq. What is remarkable is that this magnificent terraced landscape was situated in a very arid area, in the desert. It is no coincidence that the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Semiramis was a Babylonian-Assyrian queen. During her reign, the gardens were especially splendid, which is likely why they were named after her. Babylon was regarded as the most beautiful city of antiquity. Besides the Hanging Gardens, it also featured one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: the city wall.

The Hanging Gardens were located in the center of the city, at the foot of the palace. They are said to have been 100 m wide and 100 m long (330 ft by 330 ft). There were reportedly seven terraces. The walls must have been very sturdy, as they had to support an incredible weight. They were covered with reeds and asphalt, and a double layer of bricks. On top of the bricks was a layer of lead. This was to prevent moisture from penetrating the masonry. Finally, there was a soil layer several meters high. Even trees could grow on it.
