Hello everyone,
I am facing quite a complicated challenge and hope this is the right place to find some help (or maybe you know where I should best turn to). My girlfriend and I are currently in the middle of building our house, and we have planned a pretty creative floor lighting for our living room. We have made two holes in the floor, one with a diameter of 25cm (10 inches) and the other 30cm (12 inches) (see picture, although only one hole is visible in the photo).
These holes are to be covered with a screwed-down plexiglass panel, into which decorative items can be placed and swapped out as desired. So, the plexiglass panel must be removable at any time. Around the plexiglass panel, there will be a mosaic of marble tiles about 10cm (4 inches) wide, and around these tiles, glued parquet flooring will be laid, matching the rest of the living space.
I now have the following questions:
- Which plexiglass should I use? Or should I use laminated safety glass? It definitely needs to be walkable.
- How is the transition made between the parquet and the tiles? Acrylic sealant?
- How is the transition made between the tiles and the plexiglass panel? Grout? Acrylic?
- How should I fix the plexiglass panel to the floor so that a) the ugly screed beneath the panel is not visible and b) I can install lighting with LEDs or similar?
- How can I ensure that the lighting inside the hole is only indirectly visible? LED strips?
Oh dear, just reading these questions makes me feel sick again...comes from listening to my girlfriend without thinking first :-)
I hope you can help me at least a little! Thanks in advance,
Greetings from Vienna
Stefan
