Hello everyone, the tiling work in our new build has been completed. We are far from satisfied with the results. The tiler says everything is within tolerance, but we find that hard to believe. That’s why we wanted to get some independent opinions. What do you think? Were the work carried out according to recognized standards and technical rules or relevant DIN regulations?

We would appreciate any helpful responses.

Best regards, Gerrit

I wouldn’t recommend using gypsum in wet areas; instead, you should have the tiler come back to redo the grout or tell him which grout material was used.

You’re right! I assumed these were not wet areas—using gypsum on a windowsill or some corner near a door is not an issue. After all, there are also gypsum-plastered walls in bathrooms 😉

From the pictures, I see a window corner.

No, but the photo with the hole showed a floor tile. Otherwise, I wouldn’t consider that problematic either—though the grout color would need to match. For example, none of the grout in our house has a gypsum-like color.

How did you imagine the top stair step?
For me, having the riser below the floor tile would have looked better.

Oh dear... if someone expects me to do something like that, it would be suffocating 😉 That definitely wouldn’t meet my standards, especially not in a newly built home!!!

What is the difference between new construction and existing buildings?

Exactly! There really isn’t any! In both cases, it looks like it was done by an amateur!
