Hello everyone, the tiling work in our new build has been completed. We are far from satisfied with the results. The tiler says everything is within tolerance, but we find that hard to believe. That’s why we wanted to get some independent opinions. What do you think? Were the work carried out according to recognized standards and technical rules or relevant DIN regulations?

We would appreciate any helpful responses.

Best regards, Gerrit

Often, the problem is that the contractor is chosen based solely on the lowest price shown in the bottom right corner.
A contractor who charges (and can charge) higher prices usually does so because they deliver corresponding quality. This becomes apparent in various details.
Therefore, it is important to review references beforehand and also value the contractor’s reputation. In our case, the tiler voluntarily corrected several things he was not satisfied with. I might not have even noticed some of these issues during the final inspection.

Often, you have no control over this, for example when building with a general contractor… then you have to deal with the tradespeople who show up on site… and these are often exactly the ones you mentioned… meaning those with the lowest bid at the bottom right…

But then you have already made a mistake when choosing your temporary building partner. The situation is always the same: everyone is the architect of their own fortune 😉

Well, many don't really have a choice... Large general contractors work with a variety of different tradespeople... so it can happen that two neighbors building with the same general contractor have completely different tradespeople on site.

Accordingly, the quality of work delivered by them can vary significantly. One homeowner might be very satisfied, while the other faces major issues...
