Hello, I already received great help yesterday and have one more question.
House: Built in 1971
Purchase
Stairwell paint: 2014 textured plaster
In the stairwell, there has been a crack in the plaster for years, running relatively straight up from the steps. It is visible in winter but almost disappears in summer.
Is the crack only in the plaster, or does it affect the masonry?
Is it something to be concerned about or harmless? I would then just paint over it and consider the matter closed.
Thank you and best regards!

You write regularly about your strong concerns regarding various issues in your home, whether potential pollutants, moisture, or cracks. Are you truly happy with your living situation? I imagine it must be awful to experience constant adrenaline rushes—you should be enjoying your home!
The crack you show here is very small, barely noticeable. Structurally dangerous cracks usually extend through the entire masonry and do not shift by just a fraction of a millimeter.
You bought an old house, as we did, by the way. A lot of settling has already taken place, some movement still happens occasionally, and things don’t fit perfectly together like in a smooth new build. But it’s stable and has stood for decades, serving as a good home for its previous owners :-)
Perhaps it’s a good idea to invest some money now and spend several hours with a reputable, trustworthy expert going through everything thoroughly—like before a purchase, or even more comprehensively. It is an investment, but afterwards, you can relax mentally.

For this corpus delicti, I would almost call it a "reading glasses tear" – really only dangerous for hypochondriacs. Maybe a tin foil hat will help *SCNR*
