Hello everyone,

We are about to start building soon and want to install a sliding glass door between the kitchen and living area that slides into the wall. Are there good systems and manufacturers you can recommend, and is there anything I should be aware of?

Who has experience with sliding doors that slide into the wall and can recommend them? I would rather pay a bit more for a stable system than install something cheap that breaks after a few years. Then I would have to tear down the wall.

Thank you very much for your responses.

Regards

My parents have had an internal sliding door between the kitchen and dining area since 1989 and have never had any problems with it.
However, the door is rarely ever closed. One reason why my kitchen will be completely open—I wouldn’t use the door anyway.
But at least it works! Manufacturer? No idea. The house is from Rensch-Haus.

My brother also has a door like this, and I am not impressed. This door is hardly ever used, at least not when I am around.

We also chose a glass door running along the dining room wall between the kitchen and dining area. It has a nice pattern and also serves as a decorative feature.

And it actually gets closed more often during cooking than we expected.

Hello,

it depends on the type of wall: solid construction or drywall?

For a solid wall, a “recess” must be built. After installing the support system, the recess should be filled with thinner bricks to allow the sliding element to move freely within the wall pocket, followed by interior plaster. It is often difficult to find a standard frame for this, so a custom-made frame will probably be necessary.

Alternatively, I personally recommend the drywall system from Knauf.

Wall thicknesses are 125–150 mm (5–6 inches), and the door can be customized in 3–4 variations according to your preferences, including height and width. Details can be found on Knauf’s website.

I have installed about 250 units in a project with 100 apartments. The sliding door area can create challenges regarding wall-mounted loads, but this issue is not much less with the solid wall version.

Problems? Yes! Improper installation can cause issues with any door.

Hello!

Two weeks ago, we installed a glass sliding door (with soft-close!) between the pantry and the kitchen. It cost 520 EUR online...

@trendyandi

What size did you install?

And where did you buy it?

Good luck
