Hello. What is your preferred option for suspending the garage ceiling?
12.5mm (1/2 inch) drywall panels or 12mm (1/2 inch) OSB boards?
The joists for the garage ceiling are about 50cm (20 inches) apart.

Advantages of OSB:
- No need for battens, so it’s faster. (I still have battens available, so that would be free for me)
- No filling or taping needed

Disadvantages:
- Panels are more expensive
- Even after painting, the surface is not as smooth as drywall

Advantages of drywall:
- Cheaper
- Better appearance

Disadvantages:
- Filling and taping required (so painter’s costs)
- Battens needed

I’m also interested in which you consider more suitable.
The garage ceiling itself is not insulated.
Construction from bottom to top: longitudinal joists, rough boarding, EPDM membrane.
A sectional garage door will be installed.

You will have to deal with a lot of humidity there. Therefore, I would recommend OSB, but 22 mm (7/8 inch) for stability. Additionally, it allows you to attach things more securely if needed.

If appearance doesn’t matter, I personally prefer OSB. In my view, it’s simply faster, easier, more flexible to work with, and more tolerant of errors. However, for further finishing and making it “look nice,” it’s a nightmare. Wallpaper, paint, or fleece never look good.

Thank you for the feedback.
I will now use OSB boards. The spacing of the joists is approximately 63 cm (25 inches), with one spot at 68 cm (27 inches). I have decided on 15 mm (0.6 inches) thick boards. There should not be a significant load on the boards.
We will paint the boards after installation. I hope it will look acceptable then. But after all, it is "only" a garage.

I used both myself, 18 mm OSB and then screwed on 12.5 mm drywall panels. It provides stability plus a good appearance (painted white). Cost-wise, it stays within budget.
