PeterLustig4924 Jul 2016 12:25Hello everyone,
I am currently planning a garage to be built with aerated concrete blocks.
Part of the wall will not be plastered because it will be built directly against the neighbor’s prefabricated garage. The blocks used will be 17.5 cm (7 inches) aerated concrete.
Additionally, my garage is at a higher level, so the shed roof of the neighbor’s garage ends at my garage wall.
My thoughts on this:
Is the aerated concrete block durable without an external plaster finish in this area? This section is protected from driving rain by the neighbor’s garage, but moisture will likely get into the gap between the two garages, and more water may enter if the neighbor’s rain gutter overflows.
How is such an in-between area usually waterproofed?
I would appreciate any experiences and advice.
Best regards,
Peter

I agree with you that ultimately, these blocks cannot protect against moisture. For this reason, I would recommend choosing a different type of block.
