Hi,
we soon need to decide on a garage floor covering, so I’d like to get your opinions.
Option 1: Smoothed concrete
+ included in the tender
+ durable
- slippery when wet
Option 2: Tiles
+ easy to keep clean
+ design options
- expensive
- slippery when wet
- vulnerable to damage from falling objects
Option 3: Screed
+ would make the building permit / planning permission cost-neutral as an alternative
+ not problematic when wet
- always dust on shoes
- stains from many liquids
What would you choose?
Regards,
Frank

Bieber081517 May 2015 23:35Is it meant to just park a car there, or do you have other uses in mind? Off the top of my head, I would suggest concrete.
I would remove the downside "slippery when wet" for all options. As long as no moss grows on it and it is not polished, concrete will not be slippery, and tiles come in all slip resistance classes. Proper tiles are also not sensitive. I would base the choice on budget and type of use. For just parking a car and storing some sports equipment, tiles would be too expensive for me.

Doc.Schnaggls18 May 2015 09:09Hello,
we also opted for concrete – however, it is definitely not smooth when wet.
Two other alternatives would be:
- Pebble finish – very elegant but also quite expensive
- Industrial floor (resin) – easy to maintain, very slip-resistant when sand is added
Best regards,
Dirk

It will be polished concrete – thanks for the opinions! If I ever don’t like the surface anymore, I can always glue something on top, like PVC flooring or tiles.
By the way, no one wanted to deal with a floor drain for possible water accumulation – it seems to be prohibited...
