Hello everyone,
Our garage will be installed next month. I am currently considering what type of floor covering to use there. Should I even install one at all?

It is a pumice precast garage measuring 6x8m (20x26 feet). My classic car will definitely be parked inside. The car is usually only driven in dry conditions. I am not yet sure if an everyday car will be parked on the other side. The garage will primarily be used for storing vehicles and for DIY work.

The base slab is made of waterproof concrete.

What kind of floor covering could I use? It should also be something I can apply myself. I would say I am quite handy. At least I have not heard otherwise yet... that could still change. My point is, it should be a system that can be installed by a non-professional.

Best regards,
Stephan

Why do you want to install a new floor covering in your garage? Concrete is usually the best choice.

Untreated concrete or screed tends to crumble, absorbs moisture, and looks unattractive after some time. If you want to showcase your valuables properly, I would recommend covering the floor with porcelain stoneware tiles. It is resistant to oil and gasoline, can be easily swept and wiped damp, and looks great.

Take a look at Flexi Tiles. We have them in the basement, and some people also use them in the garage. They are very common in car dealerships. If you enter the term in the forum search here, you’ll find more information about them.

@Belray + @Computersylvia:

Considering the age of the thread, the original poster probably already has their flooring installed... just check the date, this also applies to other posts.
