Hello!

We need your help. We are in the final stages of our planning. We are not completely satisfied with the passage between the kitchen and living room. Maybe you have some suggestions for us.

About the house
Rectangular house in a country style
Single-family house – The house will be built on a farm. The plan is to have the office for us "young people" inside the house. That’s why it should be located towards the back of the house, so the parents-in-law don’t have to walk through the whole house all the time ;-) Also very important is a mudroom where the "country people" can shower. We placed the kitchen at the front right so we can look out onto the yard. This is important to us. We would like a double door between the kitchen and living room. However, this has resulted in a narrow corridor where we can’t put anything. We are slowly abandoning our idea. What do you think? Do you have any ideas for us?

Many thanks!

I would reduce the size of the living room and possibly swap the staircase with the WC, and see if the vestibule can be minimized. On the upper floor, the rooms would then need to be rearranged accordingly. Also, you don’t spend all day standing at the sink looking out onto the yard, but rather at the dining table, right? I also find the long corridors unusual, but this is typical for agricultural buildings...

Do you have any ideas for the door between the kitchen and the living room? To avoid creating a narrow corridor-like space..

If you design your own rooms at the front left and rear right, a “Tetris” space will always form in between.

I would definitely separate the living room. Straighten all the angled walls. Access it through the hallway. Make the dining/cooking area a separate room and swap the kitchen and dining space, including a cooking and/or washing island facing the dining area and looking outside. Adjust or enlarge the windows accordingly.
I can imagine the rest just like this.

Hello,

I am far from liking the proposed design. If there is going to be a distinction between residential and commercial areas, shouldn’t it be consistent throughout?

Floor plan with bedroom, office, and hallway in a combined living and working space

Hello,

Even after reading several times, I still don’t fully understand the situation with the office and the parents-in-law.

I also don’t see the floor plan clearly at this stage. In the connecting structure, I would try to reduce the circulation paths. Of course, this depends on the workflows and conditions on the property.

For the residential building on the ground floor, I would start from scratch and organize everything in a more straightforward layout. I think the upper floor is fine as it is.

With nearly 300m² (3,230 sq ft) of living and usable space, the heat generator should not be installed in a niche under the stairs.
