Hello!

We need your help. We are in the final stages of our planning. We are not completely satisfied with the passage between the kitchen and living room. Maybe you have some suggestions for us.

About the house
Rectangular house in a country style
Single-family house – The house will be built on a farm. The plan is to have the office for us "young people" inside the house. That’s why it should be located towards the back of the house, so the parents-in-law don’t have to walk through the whole house all the time ;-) Also very important is a mudroom where the "country people" can shower. We placed the kitchen at the front right so we can look out onto the yard. This is important to us. We would like a double door between the kitchen and living room. However, this has resulted in a narrow corridor where we can’t put anything. We are slowly abandoning our idea. What do you think? Do you have any ideas for us?

Many thanks!

Most likely, your parents-in-law support you on the farm and therefore need access to both the office and the mudroom?

Is the space in the mudroom really sufficient for you? It seems quite cramped to me, especially if two people want to enter at the same time. Also, I would miss having space for laundry. Usually, you come out of the house in clean clothes and leave them in the mudroom after changing, until you need to return from the farm to the house. However, work clothes from the barn are usually not put straight into the washing machine after just one use.
Personally, I don’t like the idea of clean clothes ending up in the same place where dirty barn laundry was just stored... -> maybe consider planning additional shelves or storage space in the mudroom, even if it reduces the size of the utility room?
