Hello,

First of all, thanks for the dishwasher thread, it’s really valuable!..

Maybe you could share which non-Ikea ducted range hoods you have chosen?

I’m looking for a range hood that basically fits inside an upper cabinet. In other words, only the pull-out part should be visible under the cabinet.

A possible issue is that I’ve planned two upper cabinets stacked vertically because of very high ceilings: a short one (H x W) 40 x 80cm (16 x 31½ inches) with doors, and above it a tall one 100 x 80cm (39 x 31½ inches), also with doors. I assume a standard range hood won’t fit into the lower, short cabinet alone, right?

Also, which range hoods fit in terms of width (80cm / 31½ inches)? The brand doesn’t really matter, I’m not fixed on any. Affordable, quiet, and powerful would be ideal. 😉

Any ideas or reports on your installation solutions?

Thanks!

Hello,

You can install a flat canopy hood in a 40x80 cm (16x31.5 inches) cabinet, but there are very few models available for 80 cm (31.5 inches) wide cabinets since 60 cm (24 inches) and 90 cm (35.5 inches) are the standard widths for kitchens.

Thank you for your response!
53 dB is certainly not bad...
In any case, I would appreciate more reports on how you installed your range hoods.

From what I’ve understood in my research so far, the cabinet width doesn’t really matter for flat range hoods. Flat hoods typically have a retractable section that is either 60 or 90 cm (24 or 36 inches) wide, but the part that fits inside the cabinet is about 60 cm (24 inches) wide. So, it would even fit inside an 80 cm (31½ inches) wide upper cabinet. In other words, the retractable part is wider than the cabinet itself, but that’s not a problem.

I definitely don’t want a 60 cm (24 inches) wide upper cabinet; it has to be 80 cm (31½ inches). However, I’m going for a wider cooktop, so a 60 cm (24 inches) wide range hood probably won’t be enough. Therefore, I’ll somehow have to fit a 90 cm (36 inches) wide range hood into my 80 cm (31½ inches) upper cabinet.
Maybe someone else has encountered this problem…? 🙂

I am also considering installing a flat canopy hood in an 80x40 cm (31.5x15.7 inch) cabinet.

Although it is designed for a 60 cm (23.6 inch) cabinet, I don’t see that as a big issue. I will simply place a 10 cm (4 inch) wooden block on both sides and attach the hood to them.
In front of the hood, there will be a partition inside the cabinet, creating a nice spice rack.
