Hello everyone,
Interestingly, the search function didn’t show any thread addressing the topic of tipping.
We are currently wondering how tipping is handled in construction...
What is usually given? Who receives what?
Or do people rather give a case of beer and a round of coffee and snacks instead?
How have you dealt with this, or what experiences have you had on this topic?

Never think that this would improve work performance even slightly; it does not.For those who are used to doing the bare minimum in a sloppy way, that might be true. But I generally belong, like @hampshire and @rick2018, to the group that believes "appreciation is usually reciprocated."https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

I also don’t believe that this improves the quality of the work. But I think that if the tradespeople feel comfortable, they are more likely to come back later.
There was quite a bit of poor workmanship here as well, but we don’t call those companies anymore. From the start, I assume that trained professionals will do their job properly.
By the way, I also enjoy working for clients where I know I’ll receive a tip or at least a smile or a thank you. Customers who behave annoyingly or completely indifferent definitely won’t be given priority^^.

We gave a tip afterwards. Specifically to the electricians. They did an absolutely perfect job. They were very grateful.
Otherwise, there were occasionally drinks. And always quick and straightforward payment.
And: we also sometimes give the mail carrier a gift.
On Saturdays, she always drops lollipops into the mailbox for the children.

As a student, I worked on a construction site as a general laborer. In the crew I was part of, where conditions were good, we worked with care. But where the client was an arrogant city snob, we urinated in the concrete, among other things. Yes, that was how it used to be about 40 years ago. Nowadays, for example, they send you Romanian workers to the construction site who have no skills, no motivation, and no expertise.

I have often heard that what is called the "certified professional rate" in healthcare leaves much to be desired in large construction projects—yet in single-family home construction, this has only been an issue among unskilled laborers. Karsten has affectionately referred to them as "screed-Ahmads." This applies to tasks like insulation installation, chipping, cutting channels, drywall installation, and smooth finishing of the brick joint mortar.
