Hello everyone,

The house construction will start soon. Can anyone estimate how much the earthworks will cost or share their experience? How is it usually calculated?
The building site is in Bavaria, 160 sqm (1720 sq ft) plus basement, double garage (not basemented), with what appears to be normal soil at first glance.

What determines whether the soil is removed or kept? I'm quite surprised that all our soil was hauled away at great expense and then filled with mineral concrete aggregate... whereas the neighbor kept all their clay soil and used it for backfilling?!

Using crushed concrete is a safer option because it prevents settling. With soil, even if you compact it thoroughly in a house with a basement, there is always a chance it will settle over time. We also used soil as backfill but obviously had to remove a lot since there’s naturally a lot of excess with a basement. In our case, crushed concrete is placed on top of the backfill, and then paving stones or terrace flooring are installed over that.

A basement (excavation)?
With materials, for example, for the crane setup area, the surface for the foundation slab?
