Hello,
What do you think about using double drywall (2 layers of 12mm (0.5 inches)) in the two children’s bedrooms upstairs, or is a single 20mm (0.8 inches) layer enough? Also, should we install sound insulation between the layers, or is regular insulation sufficient? (Our bedroom is on the ground floor)

No, 68 km (42 miles) away. It was just a discussion with my site manager, and the question remained open. I don’t have any experience with this. It’s always the same question: single-layer without sound insulation is cheaper than the other option. How much cheaper, I don’t know yet. First, the question is whether anyone has regretted taking that risk.

Whether this significantly improves sound insulation is not so easy to say, as the topic is somewhat more complex. The wall must, of course, be insulated on the inside and decoupled from the exterior masonry. Will electrical outlets or light switches be installed there? How are the doors and door frames planned?
Light switches, power outlets – yes. I cannot yet say exactly how the frames will be fixed, as these details have not been discussed. Here, I trust the construction manager. They are very simple Prüm doors, with a few stainless steel inserts. From my point of view, double doors are much more stable; whether the insulation with soundproofing makes a significant difference, I cannot say.
