We want to build our double garage soon. I haven’t received an actual quote yet, only used configurators on various websites and saw prices ranging from €7,000 + foundation to €23,000. The building permit / planning permission is already in place.

What approximate costs can be expected for the shell construction?

Which garage door manufacturers are available?

What are the standard door sizes?

Which manufacturers are more affordable but still good quality?

Is an exit door or emergency door necessary?

Maybe you have some information for me. On Monday, I will have a visit from two shell construction contractors I found through MyHammer.

Thank you.

If you are convinced by these systems, then what speaks against them? In my opinion, the prices are quite low to even too low.

We paid just over 20,000 for a 6x8m (20x26 ft) garage with two sectional doors, including the foundation. However, it was a precast reinforced concrete garage.

The 7k is certainly a base price. Additional costs come for windows, side door, anti-condensation measures, electric garage door opener, and so on. Recently, there was a similar thread here where prices for double steel garages were discussed.

7k? For a double garage? What material is it supposed to be made of? (Serious question)

Steel, but I would avoid that since I like working on motorcycles and in the future want to build either a classic car or a fun vehicle.
I read online that steel garages tend to get extremely hot in summer and very cold in winter, which I can well imagine how that feels with steel.

Feel free to send me the link to your garage builder. Thanks.

I can well imagine that 7k is also the lower limit, but it’s annoying to answer the same configuration on dozens of pages. That’s why I’m hoping for your recommendations for a garage builder.

I have scheduled two appointments with shell builders via MyHammer for Monday and Tuesday. I’m curious to see what prices they quote.

We have a solid double garage measuring 6.50 x 9 m (21.3 x 29.5 ft) externally, with a sectional door 5 x 2.25 m (16.4 x 7.4 ft) and a pitched roof.

We built the masonry ourselves using 24 cm (9.5 inch) standard blocks. The rest was completed by contractors:
- Concrete slab with frost protection edge and drainage pipes
- Pitched roof with waterproof underlay and black matte glazed clay roof tiles
- Intermediate ceiling measuring 6 x 3 m (19.7 x 9.8 ft)
- Screed with hard-wearing surface
- Interior plaster (only gypsum-based)
- Mineral-based exterior plaster including paint
- Sectional door 40 mm (1.6 inch) thick with insulation from H*rmann, equipped with an electric opener

The costs for this work now total just under 30,000 (currency) without electrical installation.

Wow, 30k really exceeds the usual budget..

What I still need is information about garage doors – which manufacturers are available besides, for example, Hörmann.
What is the standard door size and which dimensions are compatible?
Or is it better to decide on this beforehand?
